Volunteer at the Portland Film Festival

Volunteer Opportunities

We have weekly leadership meetings on Sundays in the Pearl District (1126 NW Marshall St., Portland OR 97214) at 12:00pm. You are welcome to attend if you have an interest in becoming a leader. Otherwise, if you’d just like to volunteer, here is a brief description of all opportunities available during and before the film festival. Email our contact page with questions or to sign up.
PR: Advertise the festival!
Newsletters: Create newsletter content and send out to readers once a week.
Social Media: Will manage and keep the Portland Film Festival Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, and Twitter active with events leading up to and during the festival. You will take or be in charge of collecting images and stories to post regularly.
Event Notifications: Will create events on Facebook, Meet Up, and Event Bright.
WordPress Wizard: Help manage the WordPress site.
Volunteer: Help those involved in PR.
Street Team: Staple, tape, and/or find bulletin boards to hang our posters and brochures all over Portland!
Development/Sponsors: Find Sponsors for the festival!
Sponsor Recruiter: Cold call sponsors, manage relationships, obtain commitments.
Shwag Acquisition: Cold call partners seeking shwag, manage relationships, obtain commitment.
Volunteer: Help those involved in Development. 
Volunteering: Find more people to work on the festival!
Volunteer Recruiter: Set up events, advertise events and openings.
Volunteer Trainer: Teach volunteers how to do their jobs.
Volunteer Assigner: Speak to potential volunteers, learn their interests, get them in touch with leads.Parties/Events: Organize the Parties/Events for the festival!
Opening/closing night’s parties: Organize, host, and manage the parties for opening and closing nights. Put together volunteer needs for each party.
Nightly receptions and after parties: Organize, host, and manage the nightly receptions and after parties. Put together volunteer needs for each party.
Speed Networking: Organize, host, and manage the speed networking events. Put together volunteer needs for each event.
Sponsor Events: Organize, host, and manage the sponsor events. Put together volunteer needs for each event.
Volunteer: Help those involved in Parties/Events. 

Festival Workshops: Organize the workshops during the festival!
Recruiting Speakers: Contact and recruit speakers that are involved in film.
Creating Compelling Topics: The name says it all.
Volunteer: Help those involved in the Workshops.

 

Merchandise: Sell our swag!
Online Store: Manage the online store.
Merchandise Sales: Sell the merchandise (hats, shirts, totes, etc.) at the merchandise booth at the festival.
Volunteer: Help those involved in Merchandise.

 

HospitalityGet out of town VIP’s in town, around, and settled!
Travel: Coordinate travel for out of town VIPs.
Housing Acquisition: Reach out to hotels, Airbnb, etc. to obtain discounts. Coordinate free housing for VIPs. Or open you home up for VIPs to stay at.
Transport: Pick people up and drop them off at the airport, drive people around as necessary and/or or hire drivers.
Volunteer: Help those involved in Hospitality.
Media TeamTake pictures and video of the workshops, festival, and parties to use for current and future advertisement!.
Supervise Camera Ops: 
Manage onsite photographers.
Supervise Video Ops: Manage Onside Videographers.
Assist with Interviews and Q&A’s: The name says it all.
Volunteer: Help those involved in Media.
TicketsSell the Festival!
Sell tickets, passes, and workshops for the festival.

Front of House/Warm HandsHelp us when we need you in the front!
Lead: Will manage all the front of house volunteers and any questions/issues that arise.

Back of House/Warm HandsHelp us when we need you in the back!
Lead: Will manage all the back of house volunteers and any questions/issues that arise.

Early-bird passes are now on sale for the 2017 Portland Film Festival. The early-bird prices will end soon. The seven-day festival and filmmaker conference will be held this October 30th to November 5th.

Host a filmmaker during the film festivalThe Portland Film Festival is currently seeking homestays for visiting filmmakers for the 2017 Portland Film Festival. Housing is needed from October 30th to November 5th, although individual needs will vary. 

Creators Spotlight: Meet Alicia J. Rose

Alicia RoseAlicia J. Rose relocated to Portland over 20 years ago. She was a founding booker at the Doug Fir venue and built a robust professional portfolio, ranging from marketing/promotions, to portrait photography, to directing music videos for the likes of Cake and Mastodon. Alongside these experiences, she steadily pieced together plans for her first web series: The Benefits of Gusbandry.
