Meet Joe. He’s a Gyro or Rueben sandwich who loves the Academy Theater. He’s one of the many volunteers that help produce the Portland Film Festival. This year with the support of Comcast, we are highlighting volunteer stories leading up to the 2017 edition from October 30th to November 5th.

How did you hear about the festival?
My family saw it on Facebook.
Why do you volunteer?
It’s been a family activity for three years.
If you volunteered with the festival in the past, what was your favorite experience?
It’s hard to pick one – every year has been different.
What are you looking forward to at this year’s festival?
Horror short block
Are you a filmmaker? If so, what are you working on now?
What’s your favorite movie and why?
A Clockwork Orange and Raid 2 for Malcom McDowell’s acting and for the fight sequences respectively.
What’s your least favorite movie and why?
Pride and Prejudice – it’s been on too many times.

What’s your favorite theater in Portland?
Due to its proximity to Roscoe’s, I’d have to say the Academy.
If you could bring three things to a deserted island what would you bring?
MP3, Vonnegut and a flare gun.
