To celebrate the independent spirit and importance of creative arts in Portland, Oregon, the public is invited to walk the red carpet, meet visiting and local filmmakers and toast with a glass of champagne and hors d’oeuvres the opening of the 2018 Portland Film Festival presented by Comcast NBC Universal.
The event is free to attend and includes readings of both Oregon Governor Kate Brown’s and Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler’s proclamations celebrating film. Also in attendance will be Oregon State Senator (and crew member from The Goonies) Betsy Johnson, Oregon AFL-CIO President Tom Chamberlain as well as other important industry leaders.
Over 500 Portlanders and visiting guests attended last year’s event. The filmmaker reception included over 150 directors and producers from last year’s roster of films, making it the largest film industry event held annually in the State of Oregon. This year’s event promises to be bigger than ever.
The Portland Film Festival is setting aside proceeds from tickets sales at this year’s Festival to benefit other local organizations with roots in Portland and Oregon. The evening will include a presentation of checks to two local non-profit organizations.
The Portland Film Festival is one of Oregon’s largest film festivals, and was named “one of the coolest film festivals in the world,” by MovieMaker Magazine. This year’s Festival will be held on October 22-28 and will include over 150 films from around the world, focusing on independent voices. Passes are on sale now!
It is a 501(c)3 non-profit, year round organization dedicated to nurturing filmmakers and audiences, and to celebrating the power of a good story. The Festival focuses on the people, ideas, technology, skills and artistry behind filmmaking, and provides both entertaining and educational opportunities for the public.
